Beyond the starting point, here are some of the plans for future integration and investigation:
  1. Incorporate further sensors for micro climate and health control, for example:
    • pulse based oximeter
    • humidity sensor
  2. Prototype haptic feedback
  3. Improve accuracy and add more degrees of freedom to motor control using flex sensor
  4. Test and migrate over to a more wearable medium for electronics: Adafruit's sewing friendly Arduino (straight forward migration from ) together conductive thread/ conductive paint to reduce bulk for wearing
  5. Attempt to experiment with advance materials, preferably with the support of suppliers
    • non-newtonian fluid for impact damping
    • movement testing with materials that uses van der vaal
  6. Women's fashion design for garment

During the time-boxed 2 wo-man days (and nights) worth of work, this phase has achieved the following:
  1. Measure physiological signals
    • temperature
    • skin conductivity (detecting sweat)
  2. Combined physiological signal and define basic algorithms for "healthiness", or "comfort-ness", in suit (currently known as health index and comfort index)
  3. Display health index visually
    • RGB LED linked up to health index, there's 10 shades of colour between red and green to reflect the health index.
  4. Measure movement on the undergarment close to the body and relay that motor control (developing capabilities of the sensor network layer as discussed above)
    • flex sensor is is used to detect the movement
    • a simple servo motor is connected reflect the flex detected (the servo motor is an illustration of the capability to drive changes - it can be replaced by other external actuators as appropiate)
  5. Research on current issue with the space suit
    • created website to host research at: exoskn.weebly.com
  6. Research on advanced materials that could be incorporated into the design
  7. Initial design outlining the layers of modularied function

* Arduino has been chosen for the rapid prototype because it's something that I have on hand. It would be an easy migrate to Adafruit's wearable line of products from Arduino.

This is where it got to after about 36 hours of work:
